Bible study on marriage & divorce
Jesus on Divorce
Matt. 5:31-32
6 examples to exceed the scribes and the Pharisees Matt. 5:20
1) anger
2) lust
3) divorce
*2 Timothy 3:16 all scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.

We have all been touched by Divorce. If we see marriage as God intended marriage to be, then, we would see why God is opposed to divorce and sexual immorality?
Biblical Marriage video of testimony John Piper desiring God the story of Ian & Larissa

“When all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay.”
Desiring god exists to spread the truth that God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him. Marriage is not mainly about prospering economically, it’s mainly about displaying the covenant keeping love between Christ and his church.
Knowing Christ is more important than making a living, treasuring Christ is more important than bearing children. Life may have many bright days or it may be covered with clouds, but if we set our face to make of marriage mainly what God designed it to be, no sorrows & no calamities can stand in our way. Every one of them will not be an obstacle to success but a way to succeed—john piper

Could it be that the Worlds view, ideal, thoughts, and grasp of marriage is so unlike Gods?
Gods vision of marriage is higher, deeper, stronger, more glorious than anything we could imagine. We are fools to think about divorce in a casual way. Without learning marriage from God, we cannot know what marriage is.
Malachi 2:16 I hate divorce says The Lord God of Israel
Marriage is Gods ideal & design. God created marriage, man did not.
Marriage is for Gods glory Genesis 2:24, Ephesians 5:31-32
Marriage is compared to a covenant throughout the bible.
Paul in Ephesians 5:32 this is a profound mystery
Hosea 1:2 “The LORD said to Hosea, ‘Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom.’” Hosea obeyed, marrying a woman named Gomer, who was unfaithful to him.

Matt. 5:31-32 whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce. But I say to you, that everyone who divorces his wife except on the grounds of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery & whoever marries her a divorced woman commits adultery.
Deuteronomy 24
What is sexual immorality? It is adultery, incest, prostitution, fornication, any sexual action or thought outside of your covenant spouse, etc. porn, orgies.
Divorce that is not grounded in sexual immorality? NO
However, Jesus is not saying if someone is abusing you to stay and take it.
Divorce grounded in sexual immorality?
Matt. 19:9
First, we should seek reconciliation. If we are to reflect God’s image of forgiveness, we should attempt to reconcile.
If you divorce for other reason than sexual immorality, your next marriage begins in adultery.
We should reframe from being self-righteous, we all lust.
Remarriage in Acts 10:15
Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.

So, God condones remarriage but that doesn’t mean he condones divorce, he hates it. It corrupts what he created to glorify him. If a man does not have true affections for a Christian woman, marries her, and treats her poorly, good luck with that. Also, to be more than the scribes and the Pharisees shouldn’t we attempt to reconcile the marriage first before divorcing? Especially since divorce is hated by god. This once again does not say if your spouse is abusive to put yourself in harm’s way. The majority of divorces are linked to money. Many false teachings and seminars on divorce is this: if your spouse cheats on you, it is not morally wrong to divorce them.

The bible doesn’t say this. The first thing is always reconciliation. A man cheated on his wife, and she gets a divorce. The question is did she try to reconcile first? Jesus doesn’t say if they do this, you get to do this. Praise God, he doesn’t act like that.
